Ways to Give
Thousands of alumni and friends, as well as supporters from foundations
and the corporate world, provide the private gifts necessary to
maintain and enhance the educational experience at UT.
The goal of the professional staff is to assist donors in finding
the best gift mechanism to satisfy their personal, financial, and
charitable goals. Below is a description of the many ways in which
you can support the university.
Outright Gifts
Gifts of cash, personal check, and credit card (Discover,
Visa,
and MasterCard) are the easiest and most common ways to support
The University of Tennessee. You may use our secure, online giving
site. Or, if you prefer, mail your gift to The University of Tennessee,
600 Andy Holt Tower, Knoxville, Tennessee, 37996. Please be sure
to specify the area or program you wish to support.
Gifts of securities (common stocks, bonds, mutual funds) may also
be donated to the university. These have become increasingly popular.
In addition to the charitable income tax deduction, donors are often
able to avoid the capital gains tax on the appreciated value of
the security.
Planned Gifts
Planned gifts provide an individual with the opportunity to combine
their personal charitable interests with long-range financial and
estate planning. There are a variety of tools available to donors
who want to maximize the value of their gift to both themselves
and the University. Please see our
Planned
Giving section for more information including examples of some
of the more popular planned giving options currently used by our
donors.
