Importance of Giving

As a state-assisted (not state supported) institution, The University of Tennessee receives approximately 36% of its budget from state appropriations. As support from state and federal sources has leveled, private support is playing an increasingly important role in maintaining and enhancing the strength of the university.

Support from alumni and friends provide the "extras" not available through other sources of funding. These "extras" translate into student scholarships, faculty awards, new equipment for classrooms, support for libraries, and countless other enhancements. In many cases, your contributions provide educational opportunities that otherwise would be unavailable.
